JF Garrard got into writing through reading comic books and watching movies as an escape from her mundane childhood in Toronto. Writing has always been something she wanted to do although she was almost tossed out of her Catholic all girls high school writing club for writing dark and weird stories. She is a germaphobe with a Nuclear Medicine background and holds a MBA in Strategy/Marketing.
She has many projects on the go, the latest being the Pessimist to Semi-Optimist project to battle negative thoughts to prevent depression. Click here to see the project and perhaps it may help someone you know who is battling the same thing. She wrote Save a Life, Stop Being Asian for Ricepaper Magazine, an article with tips on what to do in case of a healthcare crisis within a family.
Her first novel, a multicultural fantasy book, The Undead Sorceress, was a successful Kickstarter project. The Literary Elephant: The Beginner’s Guide to Indie Publishing was written to help out budding authors. Her short works includes Designing Fate (sci-fi story of designer children) and Baby Shadows (nonfiction essay on pregnancy). She is currently finishing up a toddler cookbook, Feeding the Kraken! A Recipe Book To Feed Children, another globally funded Kickstarter project.
She is a Marketing Consultant for Asian Canadian Writer’s Workshop, co-edited the speculative fiction issue of Ricepaper Magazine 19.4 and has been a panelist guest at Ad Astra, LiterASIAN, Anime North, Unplugged Expo and DetCon.
